Sculpture Studio: Full Figure Part I (Jannuary)

This is my progress from today's sculpture studio session. Its a full figure male study. Today was basically prepping the armature, blocking out proportions and establishing direction. Its looking OK. Even at this stage it should feel more alive. Full figures are my weakest area. Thankfully they are one of the hardest things you can ever draw, sculpt paint, etc. Ill be updating my blog every Saturday with my progress.

Some BG info on the studio. Its a really small space at the 5 points in LIC, run by two awesome Russian sculptors, Larisa Dekermendzhi and Vitaly Patrov. Each session is 3hrs (i cant help but be 30min late EVERY time), and focuses solely on the live model.

Sculpture Studio: Male Portrait (November)

This is a portrait completed in November, after about 3 sessions. Each session is 3 hrs. We don't try and get super finished or even remotely detailed in studio, so if you are used to seeing skin pores on Zbrush gallery sites, this might look simplistic.

Begining the Model

If anything im extremely haphazard. Jumping from one stage to another like a crack whore. (no offense to crack whores.) So here is a very early on zbrush sculpt. Made with zpheres, which began to annoy me, so I made some adjustments to the low poly geo in Maya and brought it back into Zbrush to play with the form. A long way to go with this guy, but as is the point of this blog, i will post as many as my steps as possible, good bad or ugly.

Operation Eric

A doodle for my next character. His name is Eric for now. I will be posting some more production type frames soon, some color tests and such. Since part of the point of this site is sort of a "work out plan" for my creative skills, im giong to try and run the gamut on every character I post. (production stills, color tests, model iterations, wireframes, blah blah blah!). Definitely inspired by Bobby Chiu

Random Face

Kind of misleading. Its not sooo random. At my work, we had an internal project going. This is my take on what I thought the face should look like. The project has been canned, so i stopped working on it. Done is Zbrush 3.0. I think i tore the head off of the superaverage man.ztl. Never remeshed it, i still might. Its kind of an idea that has fizzled out at this point.

First Post: A Not So Lazy New Year

Hello All,

And by all, I mean no one. I am starting this "artist blog" to both keep myself in check and get some useful feedback from the creative community. Of course, that requires some people to read it, and then they need to feel compelled to comment. It will be a blog sketchbook, one of the many out there, and probably not even close to the quality of some of those out there. However, If I don't try, how could i ever know if it would have worked? I am a 3D modeler by trade, but I will be posting traditional sculpture, photography, paintings, drawings, or what have you. So, I say to all of you non-existent commenters, enjoy, and thanks for keeping me in check.
